For advice and guidance on patient management that is not urgent, Kinesis may be a useful conduit.

• Kinesis is a browser-based application that allows clinicians to request expert clinical advice as an alternative to making a referral. It is most commonly used by GPs, who request advice from Specialists at their provider trusts
• Benefits for GPs – GPs who use Kinesis see improved clinical outcomes for their patients, make fewer unnecessary referrals, enjoy improved engagement with their secondary care colleagues and have the opportunity to increase their knowledge.
• Benefits for patients – Patients have quicker access to appropriate clinical care and outpatient clinics see fewer inappropriate referrals, allowing them to provide faster and better care to the patients who really need it.
• Within pathology, requests can be made to the microbiology consultants, the haematology consultants or the biochemistry consultant.
• Responses are generally within 24 hours of making the request
