Professional Profile
Dr Laura Petzold obtained a degree in Medicine in 2003 at the University of Utrecht, in the Netherlands. This included training periods in Paramaribo, Surinam and at the Kent and Sussex Hospital.
She was awarded a PhD for her research contribution, titled ‘the role of interferon beta in Multiple Sclerosis’ with the Multiple Sclerosis unit at the Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has publishing a number of articles in scientific medical journals. During her research period, she participated in clinical trials for the development of MS drugs.
Dr Petzold completed her specialist neurology training at the Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, retaining a special interest in multiple sclerosis.
She was appointed Consultant Neurologist at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2016, where she sees patient in all areas of general neurology (such as headache, epilepsy, tremor and Parkinson’s disease).
She leads the local MS service in close cooperation with the regional MS workgroup (SELKAMS) and neuroscience centre at King’s College Hospital in London. She is also Undergraduate Lead Clinical Supervisor role for Neurology for the Kent and Medway Medical school.
