From April 2023 to March 2024, the Trust managed and delivered a complex and diverse research portfolio, recruiting 6,174 participants into 93 active research studies.
Our Peggy Wood Breast Care Centre was highly commended for its support for breast cancer research, we opened the new Cancer Vaccine Launchpad Programme (CVLP) study – a national programme to identify and recruit cancer patients who might be suitable for personalised cancer vaccine trials – and are currently the third highest recruiter in the UK. We also opened the new NAIAD study in our Endoscopy department, a nationwide trial investigating the effectiveness of an AI tool in improving adenoma detection during colonoscopies.
We were also the first NHS trust in the UK to adopt Florence – an electronic document management system, helping future-proof our research function, allowing us to keep up with the rapid changes in the UK research ecosystem.
